Problem

Problem

  • Young adults struggle to find events that match their interests while also facing challenges in meeting like-minded people to attend with.

  • Existing platforms either focus solely on event discovery or social networking, creating a gap between finding events and forming meaningful connections.

  • This lack of integration results in missed opportunities for engagement and community-building.

Our solution to the problem is unique as it works as a hub that users can utilize to:

  • find events in their local area that they are interested in attending

  • matching their profile to other users who share the same interests.

By having a geosocial networking app that also acts as a hub for events:

  • users can connect with people they know share an interest with them

  • immediately have an event to attend to support the formation of a connection and community.

Research & Discovery

Research & Discovery

User interviews were conducted by all three members of the project with a single standardized script. Afterwards, data collected is analyzed and collective pain points are discovered.

User interviews were conducted by all three members of the project with a single standardized script. Afterwards, data collected is analyzed and collective pain points are discovered.

Key Findings & Pain Points:

  • Limited Event Variety & Personalization – Users feel events are repetitive and struggle to find options that match their specific interests.

  • Scheduling Conflicts – Coordinating with friends is difficult due to differing availability.

  • Time-Based Event Discovery – Users need better tools to find events that fit their schedules.

After our group of three decided on the two key user flows, I took charge in creating the user flow of “Setting up the profile”.

Design Rationale:

  • Design follows standard format of a sign-up page

  • Progress bar is present to inform user of sign-up completion

  • “Skip for now” option offered for users to have a quicker and more efficient sign-up procedure.

Key Learning Outcomes

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Working efficiently and effectively within a team setting with teammates I’ve only known for a short amount of time.

  • Learning to design experiences that would gain trust from the users.

  • Discovering how UI elements like progress bars enhance user experience by indicating the users’ current step.

The key takeaway from this project would be my skill in effectively communicating with team members on deliverables and deadlines.

Biggest Challenges & The Solution

Biggest Challenges & The Solution

  • Biggest Challenge: time constraint of having to complete the project in only 6 weeks with different members of the team having other personal commitments to attend to outside of the weekly certificate course class times. Due to this challenge, our project timeline did not account for usability testing.

  • Solution: presenting our prototype alongside our pitch to the instructors at the end of the course and receiving critical feedback for our next steps.

Next Steps & Future Improvements

Next Steps & Future Improvements

  • Further refine the sign-up procedure and develop more screens and steps for authentication of users.

  • Engage in more user testing and create more iterations of the overall app.

  • Enhance the business idea with more user research, testing, and outreach.
